Honda Two-Wheel Alignment Service in Highland Park, IL

Most people have heard about wheel alignment and understand its importance. It’s not hard to imagine how much damage could be caused and how far your vehicle’s performance could be degraded by poor alignment.

Two-Wheel Alignment Service Explained

Also known as a front end alignment, two-wheel alignment is when your mechanic adjusts the front wheels of your vehicle to be perfectly parallel to each other and orient properly when the steering wheel is released. Depending on the condition of the alignment of your front wheels, this service may include adjustments for camber, caster, and toe- which are terms indicating the different ways a wheel may be tilted away from its ideal position.

  • Camber: Looking at the vehicle from the front or rear, camber means whether the two wheels lean toward or away from each other.
  • Caster: Looking at the vehicle from the side, caster refers to whether or not the wheels are perfectly aligned. If they are, one would perfectly eclipse the other if the vehicle could somehow become transparent.
  • Toe: Looking at the vehicle from above, ask, if they rolled freely in a straight line, would they move away or toward each other? That’s toe.

Importance of Driving on Aligned Wheels

You may be aware that the front brakes of a vehicle need service far more frequently than the rear brakes. The same is true of the front wheel alignment. Because most of the weight of the vehicle is behind the front wheels, the front wheels take much more abuse from bumps, stops, and general use. For these reasons, the front alignment, or two-wheel alignment will need to be done more often than rear-wheel alignment. The alignment of your front wheels also has a much greater effect on the smoothness of the ride, performance, and fuel economy. Finally, having the front wheels aligned is cheaper than having an all-wheel alignment if your rear wheels don’t need service. You can get away with neglecting your front alignment for some time, but it will degrade fuel economy, performance, and the durability of your car.
