The popular Honda Pilot has been a preferred option among SUV shoppers for more than 15 years. The 2019 Honda Pilot, as well as the new 2020 model, are both included in the line’s third generation. As you prepare for your upcoming SUV purchase, you may wonder which of these SUV’s is a better pick. By learning about their minimal differences and connecting with our Honda sales reps for a test drive, you can easily select the exact Pilot that you want to cruise home in today.
The 2019 and 2020 Honda Pilot are available with similar trims, and these are the LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, and Elite. The 2020 Pilot is also available with a top-of-the-line Black Edition. Regardless of the trim and model year selected, your Pilot will boast 280 horsepower. This is generated by a V6 engine mated with a 6-speed automatic transmission at the three lowest trims. For both model years, the top trims come with an automatic 9-speed transmission with shift-by-wire and paddle shifters. Some of the trim-specific performance-based equipment that varies by trim for both years include idle stop, hill start assist, eco assist, remote engine start, all-wheel drive, intelligent traction management with various driving models, intelligent variable torque management and other items.
The primary difference in appearance between the 2019 Honda Pilot and the new 2020 version is the addition of the Black Edition trim. The 2020 Pilot Black Edition is a blacked-out model with a Crystal Black Pearl exterior and black leather interior with red accent stitching. The exterior includes darkened elements for the grille, trim, fog lamps, door handles, grille, and tailgate. It also has 20-inch alloy wheels with a black finish. All Honda Pilot trims for both years come with a modest grille featuring the Honda logo and its signature bar design. They also are loaded with remote entry, power side mirrors, roof crossbars, a fin-style antenna mounted to the roof and a few other defining features.
For both model years, the Honda Pilot’s features become progressively sophisticated as you progress through the trims. Lower trims have cloth seating, and top trims have leather seating with powered and heated seats. Some additional features that could be standard or optional in your new Pilot are a navigation system, Bluetooth® 1 hands-free tech, a wireless phone charger, a premium audio system, a subwoofer, an entertainment system in the rear row, a 5-inch LCD screen, a mobile hotspot, smartphone integration, an auto climate control system and Honda Sensing® safety technology. These assistive technologies are standard in all trims for both years, and they include rear cross-path detection, auto high beams, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assistance, and blind-spot monitoring.
